Creation/Edition an Artist profile while Distribution
Hi, I'm Vlad and I faced an issue to change an artist profile when I have a release processed within BeatStars Distribution.
I want to highlight a few points here:
1. Default Spotify artist integration relies on a string Name, not an Artist Id. The search returns a huge list of same-named artists which is inconvenient to look up. For example, 1k+ results - that's madness.
Suggestion here:
I would like to see it working the same as Apple Music does - link to the artist profile which contains artist Id. And Spotify supports that and, actually, that's the only way you can uniquely identify the artist.
2. Any of default distribution for the guys who have never distributed any tracks before works not as expected.
If you did not specify your Spotify and/or Apple artist (you don't have it, remember?), the outcome of that - a track is placed in a shared trash bin of the same-named artists.
Suggestion here:
It can be handled as a new artist creation form to fill while the 1st release being done. The form with all the data is then sent to streaming platforms and get verified artist account. As I saw an example of my verified Spotify artist creation, they need your business email, socials and maybe some specific inessential data. Pretty common, easy enough.
3. Moreover, even if you had handled this with Spotify/Apple support to get your own separate artist, you wouldn't be able to set it in your BeatStars Artist profile.
https://studio.beatstars.com/distribution/settings will tell you "Artist information can not be updated since there is already distributed releases." on trying to update the profile.
Consequently, you will still be pushing your further tracks to that bin, instead of your newly created artist account.
Suggestion here:
Make this change enabled and either automate all the previous releases made within BeatStars Distribution being moved to the new artist linked or leave it as is for the artist owner to make it manually with a streaming platform support team.
I hope you will take it into consideration. Otherwise, you will potentially lose an audience of BeatStars Distribution feature. I think that's a huge field to grow and merge all the beatmakers', artists', sound engineers' services together in convenient for each of us way.
Thank you!

Hello,
Let us help clarify some of your questions here, when a new artist processes a release for the first time through our distribution service, our system will automatically create new artist accounts, if they have not integrated one on initial sign up.
From then on, any further releases will be linked to the artist accounts that we created for them, if they use the same artist name each time.
With regards to your other questions/suggestions, this is a new feature and we hope to add enhancements in the future where possible.
We hope this helps to offer some guidance?
Kind Regards,
BeatStars
Hi Lee,
"when a new artist processes a release for the first time through our distribution service, our system will automatically create new artist accounts" - it won't.
I did not get my own separate artist account, my release was put to a shared place for the same-named artists. For instance, Youtube Music https://music.youtube.com/channel/UCuBl_U8NATOHkayJZ5g6HeQ.
I did the separation of Spotify and Apple Music accounts manually via the support's help. And a link to the ultimate artist profile was different.
And I cannot change it afterward, so all the aspects I mentioned above are legit.
But it worth mentioning, the second single was distributed to these separate artist profiles I managed to get created via the support team, yes. I've tested that. I don't know how it worked as I couldn't change the Spotify/Apple artist within settings. So it's sort of out of my control and not flexible for the potential cases to happen.
Hello,
If you are still experiencing any issues, please email our support team at support@beatstars.com.
Thank you.
