Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
What does the BeatStars x Sureel partnership do?
BeatStars has partnered with Sureel.ai, an ethical AI company, to help protect creator uploads from being used for unauthorised generative AI training.
This partnership helps ensure your music is opted out of AI training by default. Sureel distributes recurring “Do Not Train” notices to AI companies, helping establish clear, verifiable opt-out signals for your published BeatStars tracks.
Do I need to do anything to opt out?
No. All tracks uploaded to BeatStars are automatically opted out of AI training. There are no settings you need to enable.
Does BeatStars share my music files with Sureel or AI companies?
No. BeatStars does not share your music files as part of this process. Sureel uses track metadata and public links to identify works that are opted out, not personal information.
How often are AI companies notified?
Sureel sends “Do Not Train” notices monthly, and BeatStars provides updates on a recurring basis so that new uploads are covered going forward.
What if I want to license my music for AI use?
While BeatStars protects tracks by default, you still have options and are free to:
License your music to AI developers directly if you choose.
Create your own opt-in terms outside the BeatStars platform.
Why is this important?
AI tools are evolving quickly, and not all AI companies respect creator rights. This approach helps:
Reduce the risk of silent scraping and training without creator awareness.
Ensure AI developers can’t claim they didn’t know your music was opted out.
Set a stronger standard for ethical AI practices.
IMPORTANT NOTE: BeatStars protects tracks by default, but creators remain responsible for any separate licensing choices made outside the BeatStars platform.
