Overview

This article explains how BeatStars’ AI music program works in simple terms.

You’ll learn what happens when you choose to opt in, how your music is used, how you can earn money, and how much control you have over your catalog. It also answers common questions about ownership, payments, and what happens if you decide to opt out later.

We’ve put this together to help you clearly understand the program so you can decide if it’s right for you.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are you taking ownership of my music if I opt in?

No. Your catalog stays yours. Your rights stay yours. Always.

Does this program change my default protection from 3rd-party AI training?

No. BeatStars‘ entire marketplace catalog is registered in the Sureel database, which AI companies have been notified to check against to see which tracks they’re prohibited from using when training models.

Can I opt in just a few specific beats, or does it have to be my whole catalog?

All music associated with your account will be opted in. You can opt out at any time.

Is there a guaranteed payout, or is it based on how much my content is used?

There is no guaranteed payout for opting in your music. However, BeatDNA ensures that attribution and payouts remain tied to you if your music is used to generate new tracks.

When will we see the first revenue from this program?

We will continue to keep you updated as we get closer to releasing BeatStars AI models.

What is "BeatDNA" and how does it track my contribution?

BeatDNA is the rights and payout infrastructure that attributes all musical contributions used in the generation of a new track.

If I opt out later, does the AI "forget" my music immediately?

Music associated with your account at the time of opt-out will not be used to train any future AI models.

Any music that you upload after opting out will not be used for AI model training.

Previously trained models that incorporated your music prior to opt-out will not be affected and cannot be retroactively modified.

Will I still get paid for models trained while I was opted in if I leave?

Creators continue receiving earnings from models trained while they participated.

How long does it take for my catalog to be removed after I hit opt-out?

Any music that you upload after opting out will not be used for AI model training.

Why should I trust BeatStars with this instead of a different AI company?

BeatStars AI is built on creator consent, ownership, and compensation rather than extraction, exploitation, and theft.

Is BeatStars building this to replace human producers eventually?

At BeatStars, we believe AI should work for creators, not replace them.

What makes this "Creator-Owned" if BeatStars is the one building the model?

BeatStars trains on opt-in data, empowers musicians, and takes 0% ownership, unlike other AI companies that steal data, replace musicians, and demand ownership.

Why is BeatStars building its own model instead of partnering with Udio or Suno?

BeatStars trains on opt-in data, empowers musicians, and takes 0% ownership, unlike other AI companies that steal data, replace musicians, and demand ownership.

If I opt in, can I still sell these beats and stems on the marketplace as usual?

Yes. Your catalog stays yours. Your rights stay yours. Always.
