How Do I Enable And Adjust Commercial Use For Free Downloads?

This article applies to:

    • Professional Plan
    • Growth Plan
    • Starter Plan

Overview

In this article, you will learn how to enable and adjust your commercial use for free downloads on BeatStars.

If you allow free downloads for commercial use, this gives your free downloaders a non-exclusive license to use the track commercially. This helps protect your rights and secure compensation when your tracks are used, as they must split the master and publishing royalties with you.

IMPORTANT NOTES:
- If you want to update the commercial use settings across multiple tracks at once, please follow the full bulk update guide here: How do I bulk apply free downloads to my tracks?

- To automatically apply commercial use to your future uploaded tracks, please follow the Track Preferences guide here: How To Pre-set Your Track Metadata For Future Uploads Using Track Preferences

Step-by-step Guide:

  1. Open an existing or new track in Studio: https://studio.beatstars.com/content/tracks/uploaded

  2. Scroll to the "Monetization" section and make sure "Enable free download" is turned on.

  3. Toggle on "Allow Commercial Use".

  4. Click the "gear" icon next to the Free Download option to open Free download options.

IMPORTANT NOTE: If you allow commercial use, then downloaders must provide a name and email address to generate the license under the "Downloader needs to" section.

  5. Under "Commercial use terms" you can adjust the Master & Publishing Royalty percentage for free downloads to your requirements.

IMPORTANT NOTE: The Master & Publishing Royalty percentage is default at 50%.

  6. You can expand and customize the terms of the non-exclusive commercial use license under "View advanced terms".

  7. Once your settings are correct, click "Save". Your track will then use the updated Free Download requirements.
