Understanding Projects

How to share your work in BeatStars Projects using links, permissions, and customization?

    Overview

Beyond inviting collaborators directly, every project, folder, and file has a Page you can share as a link. This gives you flexible ways to send your work to people without requiring them to be added as full collaborators — perfect for client previews, demo submissions, or public sharing. This article covers how to control page access, customize the shared page, and share files and folders.

    Step-by-Step Guide: Project page

    1. From within your project, click the Share button, then select the Page tab.

      Note

A link to the project’s page is always ready to copy from this tab. There is no separate publishing step — who the link works for depends on the Access setting below.

    2. Under Access, choose who can open the project’s page:

      • Admins (default): only project Owners and Admins can select this option, and only Owners and Admins can open the page while it is set.
      • Invited people only: anyone already on the People with access list can open the page. If nobody has been invited yet, an Invite collaborators button appears and takes you to the Invite tab.
      • Anyone with the link: the page is public. No role is required.

    3. Click Copy link to copy the page’s URL to your clipboard, then send it by email, message, or any other platform.

    4. (Optional) Click Customize page to personalize how the shared page looks:

      • Add custom Artwork. Recommended dimensions are shown in the upload area.
      • Apply an Accent color from the available palette.
      • Turn Branding on or off.

    5. (Optional, paying users only) Turn on Password to require a password for anyone opening the page via the link. Passwords must be between 5 and 20 characters.

    6. Choose what visitors can do with the shared page:

      • Comments: let visitors share feedback and ideas directly on your files. Enabled by default.
      • Downloads: let visitors download your project files and attachments. Enabled by default. Paying users only — disabling downloads isn't available on the Free plan.
      • View older versions: let visitors browse and download previous versions of your files. Enabled by default — disabling versions isn't available on the Free plan.
      • Require user login: require visitors to sign in so you can see who viewed or interacted with your project, even when Access is set to Anyone with the link. Enabled by default.
    7. Configure advanced playback controls for audio files. Turn on Lossless Audio to stream WAV and FLAC files losslessly. This is not available on the Free plan.

      Important note

Visitors must be signed in to a BeatStars account to use advanced playback controls.

Step-by-Step Guide: Sharing a file or folder

    1. Locate the file or folder you want to share. Open the item’s more actions (…) menu and click Share file or Share folder.

    2. A link is always ready to copy, the same as at the project level. Under Access, choose:

      • Admins (default): only the item’s Owners and Admins can select this option, and only Owners and Admins can open the item’s page while it is set.
      • Anyone with the link: public access, no role required.
      Important note

File and folder sharing does not currently support an Invite tab or per-person roles. To give someone a role on the underlying project, use the project’s Invite tab instead.

    3. To manage or revoke a link you have already shared, return to the item’s more actions menu, where you will find options to update, manage, and change access settings.

      Important note

When you update access settings, any attempts to open it will show a clear message that the link is no longer accessible, depending on their level of access.
